DUKE RAOUL/HOUR HANDS: PRINCE ALBERT: 17/10/08

It’s the newly rejuvenated Cable Club within the consistently brilliant Prince Albert, and although I intended to review 4 or 5 magicians, I got preoccupied by a seductive, liquidy mistress (called beer), and missed the majority of their set.

The Cloud Ants – Prince Albert – 04/10/08

It’s not often that I see a band that I really don’t like – that inspires a feeling of guilty anger. But unfortunately, The Cloud Ants are one of them.

The Vinyl’s - The Hope – 06/09/2008

The Vinyl’s are a fairly recent addition to Brighton’s music scene, but they are also proving to be one of the most impressive– transmitting their soulful sonics, through the two pronged attack of Mat Macneil and Dan Yates.

Revenge of Shinobi - End of the road festival - 13/09/08

Revenge of Shinobi (most probably named after the classic Megadrive cartridge of the same name), are at once, beautiful, thoughtful, compelling and phantasmagorical. Their influences are many, but the sound that emits from the stage is always utterly unique.

Cut Copy – Concorde 2 – 02/07/2008

It would be an ethically questionable experiment - but…

Holy Fuck: Digital: 07.04.08

I was curious of what to expect when going to see these abrasively named Canadian tykes; the album is a strange, hazy brew of epic understatement. However, live they taste good. Very good. Probably one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Better than gherkins.

Kontakte : The Hope : 01.05.08

This being Not-For-Resale, one of my favourite unsigned nights in Brighton, which I often go along to knowingly unprepared; I had absolutely no concept of Kontaktes music before seeing them.

Raised on Replicas: Greenhouse Effect: 24.04.08

Despite being relatively unknown, the Silver Jews inspired Raised on Replicas are one of the best bands in Brighton. No doubt.
